Spray Tan Aftercare: Do’s and Don’ts for a Long-Lasting Glow

After care is SO important to keep your skin glowing as long as you can. I typically tell my clients that how your tan looks and stays is a team effort. I do everything I can to ensure your tan looks flawless; when you leave my studio, it is your job to take care of it, to keep your tan glowing and long-lasting!

Proper aftercare ensures your spray tan stays flawless for days. Here’s what to do (and what to avoid):

Do’s:

• Wait at least 8-12 hours for classic overnight solutions, and at least 3-5 hours for rapid solutions, before showering to allow the tan to develop.
• Use sulfate-free, alcohol free and oil-free body wash to prolong the tan’s life. Dove products are a no-no! 
• Always pat your skin dry after showering instead of rubbing.
• Moisturize daily with a tan-friendly lotion to keep your skin hydrated.
• Drink plenty of water to hydrate your skin from the inside out!

Don’ts:

• Avoid swimming and sweating during the first 24 hours.
• Skip exfoliation until it’s time for the tan to fade evenly.
• Steer clear of hot tubs and saunas, which can strip the tan.
  • If you are going on vacation and know that you will be in the ocean, pools, and hot tubs, please understand that this can shorten the longevity of your spray tan. 
  • To prolong the life of your tan, always use cream sunscreen BEFORE you go into the pool, ocean or hot tub, to put a barrier on the skin, and help protect the tan. 
  • AFTER the pool, ocean or hot tub, please use the freshwater showers to rinse any salt, sand or chlorine off of your skin. Sand and salt are natural exfoliants and chlorine is very drying on the skin. 
  • Then MOISTURIZE or re-apply cream sunscreen. These are the steps we can take to prolong the life of your tan at the beach or on vacation!

By following these guidelines, you’ll maintain a radiant, streak-free glow for up to 12 days!
